Course Description:

Audio Engineering 15 - The Essentials of Recording & Mixing


The world of Audio Engineering is becoming more and more accessible every day.  

In this career pathway, students will learn from recording professionals while using industry-leading studio equipment and techniques.  

Areas of study include modern studio practices and studio etiquette, use of recording equipment with a focus on signal path and professional workflow.  

Students will develop their creative vision while exploring the key stages of audio engineering - Recording, Editing, Mixing and Mastering while working primarily within the industry standard software ProTools.  

Special detail is spent learning techniques for applying EQ, Reverb, Delays, Compression and other signal processing. 

The business of the music industry will be examined during this course.

A fee of $150 is required for this course and students will receive professional headphones and hard drives for use throughout the Audio Engineering pathway.

Audio Engineering 15 - Music Production


As we study the ever changing art form of songwriting and music production, students will interface with professionals in the industry to gain a better understanding of the wide scope of processes that are used to build a successful career.

Areas of study beginning with general music will progress quickly through advanced chord theory and dive into a study of song structure and the songwriting process.

Students will explore all that is important to becoming an artist including streaming, intellectual property protection, songwriter credits, gigging, taxes, using a booking agent, song construction, plugins, virtual instruments and more.   We will discover the basics of recording, editing, and mixing in ProTools while developing a creative vision through a focus on music creation in Logic Pro.

Students will need to have a good grasp on the fundamentals of music theory prior to entering this course.

Field trips and numerous guest speakers and field trips will contribute to the discussions of live sound, songwriting, the business of music and the various aspects of being a professional artist.

A fee of $150 is required for this course and students will receive professional headphones and hard drives for use throughout the Audio Engineering pathway.

Attendance is mandatory.
